Bamboo Furniture December 15, 2007

Bamboo is attractive as a building material because it is very hard, strong, and dimensionally stable. It has long been used for an assortment of reasons, ranging from food and home construction to weaponry and musical instruments.

Americans have chosen to utilize bamboo as an upgrade, not a necessary. They choose to create a tropical looking backyard, or design a room with an Asian theme or simply collect a few knick knacks using bamboo. Its ability to create different themes, based on the consumer’s choice and personal style is simply wonderful.

Due to easy availability of bamboo in many continents, including Asia, North America, South America and some parts of Africa, the consumers can achieve the look and feel that they desire.

For example, when seeking a slightly Asian look, mixed with an island flare, the buyers may consider items such as a bamboo palapa set, a bar with a thatched roof or torches. However, those seeking a more South America décor may purchase masks that are embedded with traditional beliefs of protection, luck or other powers.

While some people opt to use bamboo outdoors, a new trend is arising in placing tables and other furniture in one’s home made with this wood. For example, when going for furniture shopping, homeowners could choose to have recliners, accent tables of all shapes and sizes, shelves, screens and more made for their home. The hand made tables are a particular favorite among bamboo lovers, because of their versatility. Accent tables can be topped with glass or other materials to give a varied look.

For many centuries now, bamboo has acquired a reputation of being excellent building material for both inherent practicality and very striking natural-looking beauty.

To protect your investment from time to time, you will need to wax your furniture. Here are some simple wooden furniture care tips.

This should be done using a soft cloth and bees wax. You should then allow some time before buffing off using a new soft cloth. Always buff in the direction of the grain.

Any food or drink spills should be wiped off immediately with a dry cloth.

If afterwards the wood is marked, gently rub down with extra fine wire wool in the direction of the grain. Once the marking is cleared you will need to wax over.

Hot or cold dishes should not be placed directly on to the surface.

Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac with Clean SurgeLive in a condo with two dogs that shed with a large area rug on the 1st floor and complete carpeting on steps and 2nd floor.

Hiring a professional steam cleaner every few months is not feasible either from a time or investment perspective.

After testing out a friend’s Hoover Steamvac (smaller version not made anymore), I concluded that purchasing one would make sense.

This Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac With Clean Surge has worked very well. I have used it several times and am very pleased with the results.

Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac With Clean Surge picks up a lot of dirt and dog hair. One thing to note that should not be considered a fault is that if enough dog hair builds up, it will kick out a little wet furrball. Better to grab that and throw it out than roll the dice with a plumber and wash it down your sink.

I do wish it were a little easier to clean out the main head of the unit or that Hoover would provide the tool automatically when sold, but that would be my only complaint.

Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac With Clean Surge does a great job on stairs too.

Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac With Clean Surge. Prepare to bust that dirt and clean that carpet. With the Hoover SteamVac Deep Cleaner with Clean Surge, you wield mighty power.

With the amazing, cutting edge SpinScrub Multiple Rotating Brush System you’re in charge of the dirt. It’s a heated cleaning system with removable rotating brushes for quick rinse cleaning, so you can back in the action quickly and easily.

Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac With Clean Surge also features a Fingertip Clean Surge function for spot and heavy traffic areas. Incredible.

The SteamVac Deep Cleaner boasts two separate translucent tanks for clean solution and dirty water, keeping them separate as you would expect. The SpinScrub Powered hand tool for is absolute perfection for cleaning stairs and upholstery.

9 Ways To Keep Your Carpets Clean December 3, 2007

Posted by Vedis The Home Lover in : Carpets / Rugs , comments closed

Your carpets are one of the biggest investments in your home. If you own carpets, carpet cleaning will soon be an issue you have to address.

They bring potential health hazard wherever they are installed because they all trap dust, dirt, moisture and odors, providing the perfect breeding ground for mites and various bacteria. This also includes potentially life threatening mold spores.

Here you can find helpful tips to keep your carpets clean.

1. Buy a Welcome Mat. If you don’t already have one, buy a welcome mat for each entrance to your home or business and encourage its use. A mat will act as a receptacle for large particles and dirt and other materials that may have attached themselves to the soles of your shoes.

2. Prolong the Life Span of the Carpet. Prevent the pile of your carpet from being crushed and worn before its time by putting a throw rug or small carpet in front of especially heavily trafficked areas, like in front of your favorite chair.

3. Commit to Sweeping or Vacuuming Once a Week. Vacuuming will remove superficial dust and dirt. Vacuum all surfaces – sofas, chairs, wall hangings, rugs, throw rugs, and of course, carpets – thoroughly using back and forth movements.

4. Move the Furniture. Moving the furniture to vacuum will allow you to get to hard to reach spots. Adjust furniture placement – even an inch or two every time you vacuum – will allow the spots crushed by furniture legs to recover.

5. Treat Spots Immediately. It’s true. If you don’t treat a spill as soon as it happens, it’s likely to set and become a permanent, or much harder to remove, stain. Stay away from chemical treatments which may damage your carpet. Start with cold water. In most cases, a little baking soda will do the trick.

6. Know Your Carpet. Before you buy your carpet, ask these questions: Has it been treated with moth repellent? Is it soil resistant? Does it require dry cleaning? How long is the warranty and what does it cover?

7. Have Your Carpets Professionally Cleaned. Get your carpets cleaned by professionals at least once every twelve to eighteen months, more often for high-use areas.

8. Know What Deep Cleaning Method is Right for Your Carpet. It has been proven that the most efficient way to clean, disinfect and sanitize carpets is the high-powered water extraction method, especially when carried out using truck mounted water extraction equipment.

Truck mounted cleaning systems are self contained powerful units that are typically installed on vans. This is the only way that these machines can be transferred to any site. Truck mounts act like a portable washing machine for your carpets, cleaning with the power of steam and then extracting the water with dynamic pumps.

The process is quicker than many other traditional processes and does not leave any chemical residue behind. Only clean, fresher smelling, newer looking results.

9. Look for a Professional Carpet Cleaning Company. Find a professional carpet cleaning company that knows what to do and how to do it. Don’t be afraid to use your newly gained knowledge to demand that the person who cleans your carpets knows even more

Ask questions, research cleaning methods and check customer satisfaction levels. Insist on steam cleaning with the proper equipment or you may find yourself with a carpet that looks clean on the surface, but due to inefficient drying (a by-product of low quality, low-powered steam cleaning) is actually breeding mold beneath the surface.

Carpets are common elements in virtually all human environments. They add beauty, comfort, style, warmth. They effectively buffer sound, and protect underlying floor surfaces, and even protect you, to some extent, if you or a loved one happens to slip or fall.
